Half Full!

So I figured out this trick: If I have three glasses, all about 1/3 full, that's three pretty disappointing servings (practically just one big gulp). Now, if I take one glass and pour it's remains into the other two glasses I've got two that are half-full! Since I'm an optimist, that's starting to look pretty good...

So why the trick?

Screen printing, Graphic Design and Pottery are a Pseudo-Holy Trinity in a perfect world. The reality is somewhat different, and until we all succeed in adding that 25th hour to the day, there just ain't enough time!

So, farewell Potter Seth, perhaps we'll meet again, but for now you are a third wheel on the Artistic Bicycle (built for two of course)...

And to my vast and loyal band of followers: expect more design, better design. And maybe this bike will outpace that outgrown trike!

Cheers!

Big Cheeks aka Biting Off More than One can Chew aka (Storing) Nuts for Winter

So, to follow up on the Mid-Year Resolution I declare here the following:
Sobriety through July was a success, and happily distant in the rear-view mirror! phew!
I have been renewed in my appreciation of a clear conscience, and reaffirmed in my love for sensible inebriation!

And in more relevant news: Working towards self-employment is a nutty though incomparably rewarding venture. The design and pottery work steadily trickles in, the cloth diaper service is solid (not a diaper-related pun) and the four-day work week is making a French Socialist Sympathizer out of me (not that i wasn't already).

The ability to have a full week day to accomplish errands, chores, be with my children and wife and spend some time outside is the Ultimate Carrot that looms just beyond my persistent grasp! However, it shall be mine! When the thick snows recede, this bulb that is our entrepreneurial spirit will be first into bloom. With a little help from hearty wholesome cooking and some full-spectrum bulbs, we may yet thrive while others concede to the cold!

So hear this 2010! You may open while my self-employment still lie dormant, but you shall not close without sight of my W-4 framed upon my wall in requiem to the clock-punching, absentee father that once was and never again shall be!

A MidYear Resolution?

These are legit right? I figure anything we hadn't quite gotten around to by Summer Solstice could be re-logged under MidYear Resolutions and given a 6-month handicap, fair enough...

So the Resolution at hand is the "Becoming-A-Work-From-Home-Dad" Resolution #2009-3B [following behind #1:maintain my oath of sobriety through july, #2:maintain a daily meditation practice, and #3A: strive for financial independence via our cloth diaper service and freelance artwork] truth be told, i definitely just itemized my resolutions and sort of made up the first two in retrospect, though they do exist intact.

Regardless, the goal remains in view. And a big part of it becoming a reality has been the steady support of friends, family, and friends of friends, acquaintances and friends of family of acquaintances, in the form of design work, pottery commissions and the like. I deeply appreciate everyone keeping me in the Rolodex...thought it may be in the attic

semi-almost-self-employed and loving it!
